About

I am often asked, “Why did you decide to be a librarian?”

It might have to do with the fact that I practically grew up in a public library (Marine Parade, to be exact) where my mum used to set me loose every Saturday. My fondest/earliest memories of childhood were trampling over all the books in the kids’ section, using every family member’s library card to borrow as many books as possible, watching cartoons and movies in the AV room, and competing to answer questions during storytelling sessions for that prized eraser. I even remember hogging the library computer to use the Internet for the first time.

My family didn’t believe in buying books, but in using libraries. So when I think about it, I wouldn’t be where I am today without the libraries in my life.

As I grew older, my relationship with libraries evolved - along with the role of libraries. And now I find myself working in one. It started with volunteering for the British Association for Adoption & Fostering library when I lived in London. I also worked as a library assistant with Clyde & Co law firm and after completing my Masters in Information Services Management from London Metropolitan University, I returned to Singapore where I now work as a senior librarian for Nanyang Technological University Library.*  You can read more about my current job here.

This blog documents my life working in a library, books and other nerdy things.
